Our Top 5 TV Ads

March 30th, 2010

It’s difficult not to be struck by the creativity on show by some of these ads. We’ve whittled the almost endless list down to our top 5. Some funny, some weird and some just plain clever. Here we go then:

1. Come on then Sebastien!

Ray Gardner’s got a letter from Sebastien, a foreign exchange student and he’s not happy about it. Time to strip off to your boxer shorts, call in some fighter jets and call out the rest of the world then…

2. Isn’t it nice when things just work?

Extremely clever stuff. Shot in one go at a cost of £1 million, the 2003 ad for the new Accord proved to be a huge success with over 10,000 people going on to order a brochure for the Accord.

3. What the Earth people eat

This is surely the reason why Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the Internet. Allowing bored workers to watch brilliant ads from 1976 and bringing a smile to the faces of all who see it.

4. Geronimo, my friend

A legendary Government ad which delves in to the life of sex mad, 81 year old, Fred Brewster. God only knows what his grandchildren made of his revelations.

5. That Gladys Oldthorpe, she never buys her own

A classic 1990′s ad highlighting the beautiful canals of Manchester. This was part of the highly successful Boddingtons ads of the time. Wonderful stuff.

Next week we’ll be writing about our 5 worst ads. Stay tuned…

The best sports games on the web

March 26th, 2010

Part of my job at BDM Bella Design & Marketing is to ‘research’ trends on the Internet. This would propel people in most jobs towards a guaranteed lie-in every morning, only stirring as the postie shoves the P45 through the letterbox. I, however, absolutely definitely need to know what the kids are up to. It is with great pleasure then, that I present my top 10 ways to pass the time in the office.

  1. Basketball – I’m hopeless at this. As I am at the real version. 5ft 8 simply doesn’t cut it on the court.
  2. Thierry Henry Handball Football – This is in French but even someone as mono-lingual as myself can understand this. My record is a rather impressive France 46 – 1 Ireland.
  3. Little Master Cricket – Quite tricky to get the hang of but then becomes very addictive.
  4. Goal Street – A strange mix of break dancing and football with a hybrid German/Japanese teenager. Intriguing.
  5. Game of 3 Halves – This is a rugby game with a difference. The only time I got close to scoring a try I was tackled by a streaker. That was after avoiding the sheep.
  6. World Golf Tour - This is a proper game. Great graphics but quite in depth. Not one to play on your tea break. Wait until the boss is off on that business trip for the week and get swinging!
  7. Rong – A kind of circular pong with a damn great pillar in the middle of the court. Very addictive.
  8. Denise Lewis Heptathlon – Unless you can convince your boss that your client wants a report made up entirely of B’s and N’s, best leave this one well alone. Remember the keyboard busting days of Daley Thompson games? Well, they’re back! Hurrah!
  9. Let’s Play Darts – Ridiculously addictive and easy to get in to. Remember to turn the sound down though unless you’d like cries of “180!!!” ringing aound the office.
  10. Stick Cricket – There’s some great cricket games out there but this is the Freddie of them all. A perfect blend of average looking graphics and gameplay make this one an absolute classic.

Happy playing and happy job hunting!
